Rom Top, specializing in representing international airlines and providing GSA/GSSA services, announced the appointment of Ronen Shapira as President of the company, effective November 1, 2026.
Shapira is among the veteran executives in Israel's aviation and cargo industry, having held a series of senior management positions in Israel and international markets throughout his career.
In his most recent role, he served for approximately 12 years as the VP of Cargo at El Al, where he was responsible for managing the business and commercial activities of the cargo division, developing international markets, and expanding collaborations with leading players in the aviation and logistics industry.
During the COVID-19 crisis, Shapira led El Al's cargo division at a time when passenger flight activity was dramatically reduced. During this period, cargo operations became one of the company's primary revenue sources, contributing significantly to El Al's survival during the crisis.
Prior to joining El Al, Shapira served for about a decade as the CEO of Swiss WorldCargo in Israel, and was subsequently appointed Regional Manager for Africa and the Middle East at the company. In these roles, he led international market development, expanded commercial activity, and established business collaborations.
Throughout his years of activity, Shapira has gained extensive experience in international business development, the establishment and management of GSA networks, the development of sales and distribution systems, and the building of strategic partnerships with airlines and commercial entities worldwide.
One of the primary airlines represented by ROM TOP is Etihad Airways, the national airline of Abu Dhabi, which operates six daily passenger flights to Israel. Starting in December 2026, the company is planned to significantly expand its cargo operations on the Israel route, with four weekly cargo flights using Boeing 777 Freighter aircraft. This activity constitutes a significant pillar of ROM TOP's operations in the Israeli aviation market.
As mentioned, Rom Top provides GSA/GSSA services, sales and marketing, business development, and commercial relationship management with international airlines. The company works in close cooperation with ACI and represents airlines and international bodies in online and offline activities within the Israeli market.
In his role, Shapira will lead the continued development of the company's activities, the expansion of international collaborations, the strengthening of ties with airlines, and the development of new business opportunities.
