International aviation and logistics group Challenge Group marked 50 years of operations this week (Monday, October 26, 2026) at a grand event held at the Avenue Events and Congress Center in Airport City.
The festive occasion, hosted by radio personality Hadar Marks, was attended by approximately 1,500 guests, including clients, international freight forwarders, cargo agents, business partners, employees, and managers from all branches of the group in Israel and Europe.
The event combined fine dining, a historical milestone exhibition, and visual displays tracing the company's evolution: from its establishment in 1976 as CAL (Cargo Air Lines)—founded to serve as an aerial bridge for exporting fresh agricultural produce from Israel—to its transformation into an integrated global corporation operating airlines, a fleet of wide-body cargo aircraft (Boeing 747, 767, and 777), cargo terminals in Europe (Belgium), aircraft maintenance services (Challenge Technic), and complex logistics networks.
Ofer Gilboa: "The name 'Challenge' expresses a passion for difficult missions"
The speech segment was opened by Ofer Gilboa, one of the group's controlling owners, who presented a special historical book produced for the jubilee, documenting the work of thousands of employees who built the company over the last five decades: "The book shows how an optimistic spirit emerged from a reality full of upheavals, dangers, and difficulties. We chose the name 'Challenge' because it doesn't promise it will be easy, but rather expresses the passion for difficult and sometimes even impossible tasks. I have been with the group for nearly 17 years, and if you calculate working three shifts a day—perhaps I can be credited with 50 years. This creation is a living and evolving enterprise in which you all have a part."
Gilboa personally thanked his partner Eshel Heffetz, who has been with the company for 27 years and led the development of the group and the fleet in Europe; Muli Ravina, Chairman of Challenge Air Cargo Israel and his strategic partner; Sigal Zissu, Manager of the Chairman's Office; and Group CEO Yossi Shoukroun, who has grown within the company over the past 23 years.
Muli Ravina: "Commitment to serve as a lifeline for Israel"
Chairman of the Board of Challenge Airlines Israel, Muli Ravina, praised the contribution of the company's employees, pilots, and ground crews, emphasizing the company's historical transition over the years: "CAL began its journey transporting agricultural produce and flowers from Israel to the world, and 50 years later, given the reality and challenges, we are transporting defense and emergency equipment and serving as a critical lifeline for the state. My wish is that we quickly return to the days when the main thing we export from Israel to global markets is flowers."
Yossi Shoukroun: "Taking the most complicated cargo and providing a standard of personal mission"
Challenge Group CEO Yossi Shoukroun reviewed the group's accelerated growth and its transformation into an international company integrating aviation services, unloading and ground handling, advanced maintenance, and complementary logistics: "A company is not built from planes, buildings, or work plans alone - it is built from people who dream, dare, and do not accept the word 'impossible.' Today, Challenge is a global group that touches the entire world. Our expertise is taking the most complex and complicated cargo - aircraft engines, sensitive pharmaceuticals, oversized cargo, and critical equipment - and moving them as if they were a simple mail envelope, while maintaining precision and meeting schedules."
Shoukroun warmly thanked owners Ofer Gilboa and Eshel Heffetz for the freedom of action and managerial backing they provided him, concluding by addressing the 1,500 attendees: "50 years are a reason to celebrate, but primarily an opportunity to look forward. The story of Challenge is being written even at this moment in every flight and every service, and we will continue to expand the global network, upgrade fleet capabilities, and dream big."
The impressive event concluded with a musical performance by "Like Queen," an Israeli tribute band to the legendary rock band Queen.
