Israel Ports Company (IPC), responsible for managing Shavit Anchorage in Haifa Bay, has for the first time begun producing green electricity at the site. The move, which is part of a comprehensive strategy to promote renewable energy solutions and develop environmental infrastructure, will include the connection of ten roofs to solar production systems in its advanced stages.
In the first phase of the project, four roofs at the anchorage complex were successfully connected to the power grid and began producing clean energy upon the activation of dedicated meters. Currently, six additional roofs are in the stages of connection and completion of the regulatory and technical process, with the goal of expanding the project's production capacity and create an independent, environmentally friendly energy source.
Shavit Anchorage, located east of the Port of Haifa on the banks of the Kishon River, serves as a marina and a central fishing anchorage for both private and commercial vessels. The complex is a declared anchorage and an official port of entry to the State of Israel, providing regular operational services to approximately 400 vessels up to 21 meters in length.
In the logistics and maritime infrastructure sector, experts note that integrating photovoltaic (PV) systems on port assets is a growing international trend, allowing for the utilization of existing areas to reduce the carbon footprint of ports and anchorages. Israel Ports Company emphasizes that the project is expected to contribute both to the ecological aspects of the Haifa Bay area and to the operational and economic efficiency of the site over time.
Pinhas Tzruya, CEO of Israel Ports Company: "This is another important step in promoting renewable energy within the areas under the responsibility of the Israel Ports Company. Connecting the roofs of Shavit Anchorage to green electricity production reflects our commitment to developing advanced, innovative, and environmentally friendly infrastructure, alongside the continued development of maritime and port activities in the Haifa region."
