ZIM Integrated Shipping Services announced today (Saturday) its full mobilization for the State of Israel's national effort, following the launch of an extensive military campaign against Iran. In a dramatic announcement from the company's management, it was clarified that ZIM will place its fleet of ships and logistical infrastructure at the service of the state's strategic needs. The company's vessels will be directed, as a first priority, to transport essential cargo from any port in the world to Israel, in accordance with the operational requirements of the Israeli Ministry of Defense and the Israeli government.
Eli Glickman, President and CEO of ZIM, stated this morning: "Our primary concerns at times like these are the State of Israel and the company's employees in Israel and around the world."
Background: Supply Routes Under Fire in the Preemptive War
ZIM's mobilization comes at the height of a large-scale preemptive war launched by IDF forces, in full strategic coordination with the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), against Iran's military arrays. The campaign, which includes massive air and naval strikes, is designed to neutralize the drone and missile threats of the Revolutionary Guard before they are carried out against strategic targets in Israel and the Persian Gulf.
Given that the Straits of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb have become active combat zones, and with expected disruptions to international shipping routes, ZIM is becoming a particularly significant "lifeline" for the Israeli economy. The ability to ensure the continuous arrival of ammunition, food, medicine, and energy under fire is critical to the country's resilience in managing a prolonged campaign.
Employees Return to Full Work
In a step indicating the gravity of the hour, the ZIM workers' union in Israel announced the immediate suspension of all sanctions and organizational measures taken in recent weeks. The union clarified that all employees are returning to full work in an emergency format as long as the state of emergency continues.
A ZIM spokesperson concluded: "Our thoughts and prayers are with the soldiers of the IDF and the security forces participating in the fighting, their families across the country, and all the people of Israel."
