Secretary-general Gurria will arrive in israel at the invitation of the Minister of Finance Dr. Yuval Steinitz on January 18 for a two-day visit
As reported last November Angel Gurria, secretary-general of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), has confirmed his visit to Israel on January 18 for a two-day visit.
Secretary-general Gurria will arrive in israel at the invitation of the Minister of Finance Dr. Yuval Steinitz.
He will meet Governor of the Bank of Israel Prof. Stanley Fischer, President Shimon Peres, and he is also expected to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
On January 19, Gurria will participate in a meeting of the social-economic cabinet headed by Steinitz, to hear about developments and progress at each ministry on matters to do with Israel's accession to the OECD.
The plan is for Israel to join the OECD in the first half of 2010, so that this will be Gurria's last visit before Israeli officially becomes a member of the organization.
The visit is being interpreted in Jerusalem as a positive sign for the prospects for Israeli membership of the prestigious organization.
