Israel Motor Vehicles Importers Association published last week its January-May sales report, noting that in total 12,917 vehicles were delivered in May 2009, substantially more than in April, but 27% less compared to May 2008.
In the five months period January-May 2009 Mazda had the most deliveries, 9,648 cars, 43% fewer than in the corresponding period.
Hyundai was in second place, with 7,242 deliveries, down 29%. Toyota was in third place, with 6,571 deliveries, down 36%. Ford was in fourth place, with 4,270 deliveries, down 20%.
Nissan, according to the report, was the only leading brand to see an increase in deliveries, was in fifth place, with 3,709 deliveries, 65% more than in the corresponding five months period.
In total 60,478 new vehicles were delivered in January-May 2009, 37% fewer than in the corresponding period of 2008. Deliveries of private cars fell 36% to 49,592.
Vehicle industry sources predicted last week a massive increase in car deliveries in June as rental agencies buy cars for the summer tourist season.
