One of the jets will be put into service in 2008, and the other three in 2009. The acquisition of the four new planes increases the airline's fleet to 41 planes
El Al Israel Airlines said last week it will buy four new Boeing 737-800 jets for about USD$194 million due to strong demand for short-range flights from Tel Aviv.
In a statement issued by EL AL President Haim Romano it was noted that oneof the jets will be put into service in 2008, and the other three in 2009.
El Al said last month that due to increased demand for short distance flights it was seeking to acquire more new planes through buying or leasing, subject to market conditions.
El Al, which operates only Boeing made planes, has over the past year and a half bought two 777s, one 747-400, and two 737-800s. The acquisition of the four new planes increases the airline's fleet to 41 planes.
