The decision is due to El Al's conduct with regard to the provision of security services for other Israeli airlines, namely Arkia Airlines Ltd. and Israir Airlines and Tourism Ltd
The Antitrust Authority had summoned El Al Israel Airlines Ltd
executives for a hearing on overseas security, before a decision is taken.
In a special announcement made late last week, the Antitrust Authority noted that the director of the Authority was considering declaring the airline a monopoly in the provision of security services for Israeli airlines overseas.
The special announcement of the Antitrust Authority implied that the decision to summone El Al's executives is due to El Al's conduct with regard to the provision of security services for other Israeli airlines, namely Arkia Airlines Ltd. and Israir Airlines and Tourism Ltd.
Last November, El Al management announced that it intended to unilaterally stop providing security services for Arkia & Israir, beginning on April 1, 2011.
In late March El Al retracted the decision ahead of a special cabinet proposal, which would have compelled El Al to continue providing security services to all Israeli airlines.
El Al has until May 1 to respond to the claims.
