The two containerships will be delivered to the company in early 2010 from South Korea’s Hyundai Shipyards
The board of Zim Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. approved last week the purchase of two large 10,000 TEUcontainer vessels for a total amount of $266.4 million and an option on a third vessel. The two containerships will be delivered to the company in early 2010.
Last June, the company announced plans to buy eight new container vessels for US$1 billion from South Korea’s Hyundai Shipyards.
A company spokesman noted that this purchase would increase Zim’s containerships fleet, in terms of TEU, by 30%.
