The cost of each of the first two containerships is $45.9, and the price of the optional ships is $47.8 million each
Zim Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. informed last week it would buy two container ships with a capacity of 2,450 TEU each. In a statement issued by Zim's management it added that the company would have an option to buy two more similar-sized vessels.
The cost of each of the first two containerships is $45.9, and the price of the optional ships is $47.8 million each.
The ships, according to Zim, will be paid for in Japanese yen, owing to the favorable exchange rate with the US dollar.
The statement added that three of the containerships are scheduled for delivery during the second half of 2010 and the fourth ship during the first quarter of 2011.
The announcement came after an announcement made earlier this month from Zim that it intended to buy eight ships from South Korean shipbuilders Hyundai Shipyards for over US$1 billion.
