The board of directors of the Israel Ports Development & Assets Company (IPC) named last week retired general Yiftah Ron Tal as its new chairman.
Ron-Tal, 51, served for 32 years in the Israel Defense Forces, reaching the rank of major-general and in his last post heading the Ground Forces Command. He is married with seven children, has a degree in law from the Hebrew University and a master's degreein business administration from Bar-Ilan University.
The appointment must now be approved by the finance and transportation ministers.
IPC is responsible for the development of Israel's three commercial seaports in Haifa, Ashdod and Eilat and for providing them with the necessary infrastructure which will allow them to efficiently and competitively handle Israel's international maritime trade. In additional to managing some of the country's largest infrastructure development projects, the company acts as Israel's port property landlord, managing the government's assets allocated for the handling of international maritime commerce.
The company is in the midst of a NIS 5.4 billion, multi-year, development project.
