The strike is a result of the Government Companies Authority refusal to approve an agreement which was signed by Ashdod port’s board of directors and the labor unions at the port
Due to a deadlock in the discussions between the Labor Unions and the Treasury , Port of Ashdod is now on full scale strike as of March 11th, around 23:00 until further notice.
The strike is a result of the Government Companies Authority refusal to approve an agreement which was signed by Ashdod port’s board of directors and the labor unions at the port. The GCA, which is a regulatory body that needs to approve the agreement by law, wanted to make minor changes to the agreemment but this was rejected by the labor unions representatives which argued that the agreement was approved already by the port’s board.
In a last attempt to prevent the srtike, a meeting was held last night and was attended ay all parties involved – the port’s directors, the labor unions and the GCA.
Since the aprties could not reach an agreement, the strike at the port began last night at around 23:00.
The labor union reperesentatives claimed that they are not willing to begotiate with a different level of executives each and every time and that an agreement was accepted by the port’s board and it should be honored.
