Three new general cargo berths were inaugurated today at Haifa Port, two of which are located in the Kishon West area and the third in Kishon East. This follows the advancement of berth rehabilitation works carried out in full cooperation with the Israel Ports Company, and the completion of crane procurement for these berths. This is significant news for Haifa Port and the general cargo unloading market in Israel.
The berths in Kishon West will be operated using five new shore cranes manufactured by German company Kocks Ardelt. These cranes, equipped with a double jib, are designed to handle cargoes weighing up to 50 tons and have a maximum working radius of 34 meters. These cranes are considered state-of-the-art on a global scale.
The third berth is located in the Kishon East area, and its operation will be completed this month with the introduction of a new hydraulic crane, the only one of its kind in Israel, manufactured by SENNEBOGEN. This crane is intended for handling heavy cargoes including bulk, and specializes in loading iron scrap. The crane includes an integrated operating system that allows work on the electricity network or via a generator.
Dr. Ron Malka, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Haifa Port Company, said: 'The diligent activity of Haifa Port's management and employees, in commendable cooperation with the Israel Ports Company, allows us to offer port customers in Israel a solution at the highest global level, while advancing schedules in a project that has lasted nearly two years, in order to meet the growing demand for our services. I thank the port owners Adani and Gadot for recognizing the opportunity and investing in the purchase of six new cranes and training additional employees. Everyone is already waiting to work around the clock for the Israeli economy.'
David Cohen, Acting CEO of Haifa Port, said: 'The opening of the new berths is a significant step that places Haifa Port at the forefront of technology and innovation in the field of ports in Israel and the world. With the opening of the new berths, we call on all general cargo ships to come to Haifa Port and unload their general cargo efficiently and quickly and enjoy the significant investment we have made.'
