A month after Haifa Port opened three new piers for general cargo, there has been a dramatic reduction of over 50% in the queue of ships waiting outside all Israeli ports, from 45 general cargo ships at the end of January to 21 ships today.

David Cohen, CEO of Haifa Port, said: "With the opening of the new piers, many general cargo ships have taken advantage of the significant investment we made and chose Haifa Port to unload their general cargo efficiently and quickly. I am pleased that our modern equipment and our employees' dedication have significantly reduced waiting times outside Israeli ports."

The opening of the three new piers is significant news for Haifa Port and the general cargo unloading market in Israel. Two of the piers are located in the Kishon West area and the third in Kishon East. They were opened following the advancement of pier rehabilitation works carried out in full cooperation with the Israel Ports Company, and the completion of the anchoring for these piers. The piers in Kishon West are operated using five new and advanced shore cranes of international standard equipped with a double-jib and designed to handle cargoes weighing up to 50 tons with a maximum working radius of 34 meters.

The third pier is located in the Kishon East area, and its operation was completed this month with the introduction of a new hydraulic crane, the only one of its kind in Israel. This crane is intended for handling heavy cargoes including bulk, and specializes in loading iron scrap. The crane includes an integrated operating system that allows work on the electricity grid or via a generator. The equipment was purchased for tens of millions of euros.
