The Israel Ports Authority council approved last week several steps to ease mounting pressure of importers and exporters to allow discounts and exemptions for vessels and cargo owners hurt by the recent two weeks long ports strike.
In a press release, Ports Authority council chairman Mr.Dan Tichon estimated the discounts and exemptions to be at NIS 13.5 million.
Ports Authority Director General Mr.Amos Ron said that the approved discounts on storage fees for owners of incoming and outgoing cargoes was about NIS 13 million, and the discount on port fees for vessels at over NIS 500,000.
Mr. Ron said that intensive work was underway at both Haifa and Ashdod ports in order to clear cargoes arriving from various nearby ports.
