Shipping company ZIM is launching a new service called ZIM ON AIR, which combines air and sea freight, in order to respond to the logistics needs of the Israeli market – against the backdrop of closed skies and the ongoing crisis in air shipping.
The new service is primarily intended for the high-tech, pharma, eCommerce, auto parts, and sensitive cargoes requiring short transit times. According to the company, the service will provide a fast alternative route by combining regular flights to destinations close to Israel, and continued sea freight on ZIM ships to Israeli ports. The export route is also offered in reverse – from sea to air.
The air freight will be carried out through ZIM LOG, a ZIM subsidiary specializing in logistics and shipping.
ZIM's President and CEO, Eli Glickman, was quoted in the company's announcement: "We acted quickly to establish a new service that will enable the transportation of vital cargoes, which cannot currently be shipped directly by air to Israel. We are prepared to bring our customers innovative, fast, and efficient logistics solutions, tailored to the changing market conditions and as an alternative to direct air shipping to Israel, which is in crisis these days."
ZIM emphasizes that its ships continue to call at Israeli ports as usual, even in emergency times, as part of its national commitment and its perception as a global shipping company centered in Israel.
