A Histadrut spokeswoman said the port workers and the Finance Ministry had agreed to negotiations for two weeks in order to discuss issues including retirement pay and the financial stability of the ports. If no deal is reached in that time, both sides will be required to detail any progress to Israel's labor court.
Government officials had called the strike an attempt by port workers of Haifa, Ashdod and the Red Sea port of Eilat to extort higher salaries noting workers had recently received a pay increase.
