The investigation uncovered the smuggling of hundreds of thousands of liters of diesel fuel, which the suspects bought at low prices in Cyprus
Police arrested last Tuesday six suspects accused of smuggling some 150,000 liters of diesel fuel into Israel from Cyprus. According to customs officials, the diesel fuel was hidden on a fishing boat which had been professionally converted into a tanker.
The customs and police investigation was carried out by undercover officers from the elite Lahav 433 anti-organized crime unit over the past several months, in close cooperation with the Tax Authorities anti-fraud task force.
Police said in a statement that the investigation, named "Dirty water", uncovered the smuggling of hundreds of thousands of liters of diesel fuel, which the suspects bought at low prices in Cyprus to sell at an inflated price in Israel.
