Shuki Sagis: “the new cranes will improve significally Eitan Port’s output”. The cranes, which cost 78 Million Shekel, will be operative within a year
Ashdod Port Company purchased last week two gantry carnes in the cost of 78 Million Shekel. The gantry cranes, model STS by Kocks company, are designated for usage at the Eitan Port and will be an essential completion for its operation. The cranes will be operative within a year.
The gantry cranes are the largest of its kind for Israeli ports, and they have the capability of unloading the biggest ships which call the mediterrnean ports. The gantry carnes have containers tarsnportation capability for super-post-panamax vessels which are 18 containers wide. The weight of each crane is 1,100 tons.
The purcahse of the new gantry cranse is part of the investment budget which was approved by the directors of board of Ashdod Port Company in early 2006 for the amount of 109 Million Shekel.
Ashdod Port Company plans to invest this year in equipping itself with mechanical machinery, which will imporve the service for its customers and in giving answers to the expanding activity of cargo movement.
According to Mr. Sagis, CEO of Ashdod Port Company, the cranes which were purchased for dock 23 of Eitan port will improve siginifically the ports output: “the cranes will enable the port to operate more crews for loading and unloading ships. The investment in infrastructure and equipment in the port is a significant part of our contintuing efforts to make our work more efficient and to improve the service for our customers”.
