The first freight train was loaded yesterday at Bay Port, following the completion of a five-kilometer railway that connects the port to the national rail network. The new railway was established in collaboration between Israel Ports Company, SIPG, and Israel Railways. The first train was loaded with steel coils for the south of the country, saving the journey of dozens of heavy trucks along Israel's roads.

The new railway terminal at Bay Port includes four tracks with a total length of 3 kilometers, and its establishment will allow simultaneous unloading and loading of three trains.

From Bay Port SIPG it was reported that "Steel coils were transferred by freight train, after strenuous work by Israel Railways, Israel Ports Company, and the various work teams at Bay Port. These coils were unloaded at the port after it was appealed to the request of iron importers, who asked to unload a general cargo ship with tens of thousands of tons of steel coils following the prolonged queue outside the ports. The unloading was carried out while giving priority to container ships. Bay Port will continue to provide its customers with a high level of service and provide creative solutions while maintaining high standards".

Chairman of the Israel Railways Board of Directors, Adv. Moshe Shmaoni: "The new railway is another milestone in promoting the cargo transport plan by train as part of the board's policy and the decision of the Minister of Transport which will lead to a reduction in road congestion, improve road safety and reduce air pollution".

CEO of Israel Railways, Moshe (Shiko) Zana: "With the operation of the new railway, the connection of the five Mediterranean ports to the rail network was completed. Israel Railways will continue to promote the establishment of branches for end customers and new cargo terminals throughout the country with the aim of increasing the share of the train in cargo transport in Israel from 5% today to 20% by 2049".
