Minister of Transport Mr. Meir Sheetrit told the Knesset Economics Committee that planning of a railway line to Eilat had already began.
The 210-kilometer section between Oron and Eilat would go into operation, if all goes according to plan, by late 2008.
The Eilat railway project will be one of Israel's largest transport infrastructure projects in recent years, providing a fast & reliable connection for passengers and cargo from the red sea port of Eilat to the heart of the country.
