Egged Bus Cooperative, the largest bus company in Israel, and the second largest in the world increases its involvement in the East European market.
Egged, which provides 60% of public transport services in Israel throughout the whole country,employs 6,117 workers and has 3,303 buses for more than 1,038 service routes and 3,984 alternative routes all over Israel is gradually becoming a major transport provider in Bulgaria.
Press release issued byEgged Chairman Gideon Mizrahi, indicate that the company is considering to increase operations in Eastern European countries, following successes of the Bulgarian Trans-Triumph company which was purchased by Egged in May 2006.
Egged Holdings, a subsidiary of Egged Bus Cooperative,bought 51% of Bulgarian Trans-Triumph company, which currently transports 1.2 million passengers per month and is considered the largest supplier of public transportation in Bulgaria.
The company holds permits for more than 50% of bus lines in the Black Sea city of Varna and owns some 140 of the city's total 250 buses.
