As from last week driving licenses in Israel are being issue for a period of ten years, instead of five years.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Transport the renewal on the ten years will cost NIS 365, a saving of 35% of the cost drivers used to pay for ten years.
The statement also noted that the extension of driving licenses for ten years will apply to all vehicle owners. The new rule stipulates, however, that new drivers, drivers of heavy vehicles, and drivers over 65, will have to renew their licenses every two years.
In addition to the driving licenses extension, the Ministry of Transport also decided to apply new photographs for all 3.3 million driving licenses holders.
Driving licenses are now issued for 10 years
