Mr. Eitan Rub, Israel Tax Authority director announced last week his resignation from his post at the end of the year.
According to press release published by the Authority Rub notified Minister of Finance Ehud Olmert of his decision last week, and rejected Olmert’s request to stay on.
Rub was appointed to the customs and VAT authority in October 2001 and since July 2004, he has headed the newly-unified tax department.Olmert expressed his personal regret over Rub's decision, saying: "The Tax Authority under Rub's leadership has adopted standards of professional service and tax collection that were unknown in public service".
Olmert added that:"Rub succeeded in accomplishing the unbelievable task in consolidating the tax branches for the benefit of the public and of the government.
In his statement Rub said, “I’m ending my term with great satisfaction. The establishment of the Tax Authority proves that even government is capable of streamlining, improving service to citizens, and adopting modern work procedures.”Rub added " I leave behind a strong entity with professional employees who can successfully cope with the challenges facing the Israeli economy for years to come".
In his statement Rub thanked the three finance minister under whom he served:Silvan Shalom, Benjamin Netanyahu and Ehud Olmert, for their support.
Rub will be subject to a mandatory cooling-off period before he can accept a position in the private sector.
Economic sources in Jerusalem said that Rub's resignation came after he had concluded that this was the right time to leave. The sources added that Rub had realized that after record a performance by the Tax Authority, he could not repeat the performance next year which is an election year.
