Defense Minister Amir Peretz said last week that he favored levying a war tax of 2% on residents of central and southern areas
In a speech he made last Friday, Peretz stated that the proposed tax should be used as a source for funding the Israeli ongoing anti-Hizbullah military offensive.
Earlier last week Israel's Finance Minister Abraham Hirchson told the forum of Knesset committee chairpersons that the government had no plans to raise taxes either this year or next.
