Analysis published last week by the Manufacturers Association (MAI)statistics and economic analysis division shows that high-tech exports fell by 3% to $3.6 billion in the July-September period as a result of the second Lebanon war. High-tech exports include electronic components, computers, communications, monitoring and control equipment, avionics and pharmaceuticals.
Nira Shamir, head of the Manufacturers Association statistics and economic analysis division, also pointed out that total industrial exports, excluding diamonds, fell by 2.5% to $7.2 billion during the same period, due mainly to plant closures in the north of Israel and a partial closure of Haifa port.
The statistic analysis which measured the fall in exports by way of comparison with the average monthly exports during the second quarter of 2006, indicates as follows:
Mixed high technology exports experienced the largest fall of all export sectors. It fell 8% to $1.76 billion, after rising 6% in the second quarter.
Low technology exports were down by 0.5% at $512 million, after rising 2.3% in the second quarter.
Mixed low technology exports was up 5.5% to $1.3 billion, after rising 5.9% in the second quarter.
