Israel Independence Day is celebrated on the 5th day of the Hebrew month of Iyar. This year (5767/ 2007) the 59th birthday of the establishment of the state of Israel is celebrated on Tuesday, April 24, 2007. A religious and national holiday, Yom Atzmaut -Independence Day, is a celebration of the renewal of the Jewish state in the Land of Israel.
 
Official celebrations for the 59th anniversary of Israel's begin tonight,on Monday eve 23rd April.
 
The official observance starts when the state flag is raised to full mast at a national ceremony on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
