The 2006 Index of Economic Freedom, published last week by the Heritage Foundation and “The Wall Street Journal”, ranks Israel in the 36th place
The 2006 Index of Economic Freedom measures 161 countries around the globe against a list of 50 independent variables divided into 10 broad factors of economic freedom.
The 2006 Index of Economic Freedom ranks two Asian states: Hong Kong first and Singapore second for the 12th consecutive year.
Ireland's position was improved to third place, Luxembourg is ranked in fourth, Iceland and the UK fifth.
The US, Australia and New Zealand share the ninth place.
Israel is classified in the 2006 Index of Economic Freedom as “Mostly free”, in 36th place and Italy is ranked in 42nd place, and France 44th.
