An official cornerstone ceremony which marked the beginning of the construction of Haifa Port first fixed container scanner took place last week.
Israel's Tax Authority which will operate the scanner noted in a press release that the technology selected was a high-resolution digital image which is a well known technology around the world.
The overall project which has been given an approximate cost of US$12.4 mill, will be completed in July 2009. US$8 million of the total cost will come from the USA anti terror program and the balance from Israel's Defense Ministry.
The new scanner which will be able to scan 2 containers simultaniosly, 24 containers per hour will be part of Israel's contribution toward the global US CSI program.
