The Israeli government is entering the cloud era: The Ministry of Finance and the National Digital Directorate announced today (Thursday) the full implementation of the Google Workspace environment across all government ministries and auxiliary units.

The system will serve as the primary tool for managing email, documents, calendars, and organizational communication, replacing outdated local infrastructures. This move is a critical component in the realization of the "Nimbus" government cloud strategy, aimed at creating a modern, secure, and collaborative work environment aligned with the technological standards of the global business sector.

The decision was made following an extensive pilot in more than 20 government ministries and was formulated through an inter-ministerial process led by the Accountant General's Department, the National Digital Directorate, and the Prime Minister's Office.

Beyond office efficiency, the key innovation is providing secure and controlled access to advanced Generative AI (Gen AI) tools. For regulatory and trade bodies, the ability to analyze massive amounts of data and perform real-time document synchronization between different ministries is expected to significantly shorten processing times for requests, permits, and government workflows involving importers, exporters, and infrastructure providers.

The Accountant General, Yali Rothenberg, emphasized that the implementation of the system is a milestone in the government's digital transformation that will streamline processes and improve service to the business sector. The Director General of the National Digital Directorate, Shira Lev Ami, added that Project Nimbus creates a leap forward in digital capabilities while maintaining the state's information security interests. The Government Procurement Administration, which managed the engagement with Google Cloud, views the move as a strategic tool for improving productivity in the public sector through world-class technological procurement.

The transition to a unified workspace is expected to directly impact the level of service received by the public and the business sector in Israel. The ability of civil servants to collaborate on shared documents, manage cross-ministerial projects, and communicate on a single platform is intended to reduce the familiar bureaucratic "ping-pong" and lead to the full digitization of the government value chain. The move marks the end of the local server era and the final transition to a flexible cloud model that can respond quickly to changing needs and national crises.
