Finance, Trade and Industry Minister Ehud Olmert met last week with the Jordanian Trade Minister Zuabi Sharif at the Sixth World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference in Hong Kong.
The meeting was scheduled to discuss a number of bilateral issues.
The Jordanian minister is said to have expressed the feeling that the time has come to widen economic cooperation between the two countries, both in new economic realms, as well as in science and technology.
Minister Olmert later confirmed that Jordan is interested in expanding its economic cooperation with Israel from textiles to high tech and IT.
Olmert also noted that exports to Jordan will total $150 million in 2005, mostly for the qualifying industrial zones (QIZs) there.
Both ministers praised the agreement reached by the negotiating teams to improve the QIZ agreement.
Minister of Finance Ehud Olmert predicted that the cumulation trade agreement between Israel, Jordan, and the European Union would go through the Israeli parliament and become effective in early 2006.
