Mr. Yechiel Assia, director general of the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute said last week in a press release that 731 Israeli companies currently operate in China. Assia noted that in 2005, 96 new Israeli firms entered the Chinese market.
Assia issued the press release on the eve of the Export Institute conference on the legal aspects of doing business with China which was held in Tel Aviv last week.
The guest speaker at the conference was an Israeli lawyer Adv. Gal Furer from a Chinese law firm J&S Law in Beijing
Assia added that “It is frequently very difficult to predict developments in the Chinese business environment, due to the lack of transparency and consistent laws and regulations”.
According to Assia Chinese laws tended to be much more general than in developed countries, thus creating lack of clarity and ambiguity, which enables courts and government officials to apply laws flexibly and inconsistently. As a result, many non Chinese companies including Israeli's find it highly difficult to decide whether their activity violates national regulation or law.
