The Planning and Economics Division of the Tax Authority released today the data on the import of durable goods for January 2025. The data shows that in January 2025, there was an import of 9,347 private vehicles, compared to 18,403 in January 2024, a decrease of 49.2%.

The low import in January 2025 resulted from the advance import of vehicles in an exceptional volume in December 2024, before the increase in the purchase tax on electric vehicles, the update of the green taxation formula, and the update of the green taxation path in January 2025.

There was also a massive import of vehicles in December 2023 before the increase in the purchase tax on electric and plug-in vehicles, but in a lower volume. It should also be noted that the import in January 2024 included vehicles that were supposed to arrive in December 2023 and were delayed due to the security threat involved in transferring goods through the Red Sea following the war. If not for the delay, a more moderate decrease in vehicle imports would have been recorded in January 2025. The import of commercial vehicles totaled 849 vehicles compared to 999 in January 2024, a decrease of 15%.

The Tax Authority stated that trend data indicates a moderate increase in passenger vehicle imports starting from March 2024.

The total value of all imports in January 2025 amounted to 7.2 billion dollars - an increase of 12.7% compared to the value of imports in January 2024. It should be noted that the value of imports was low in January 2024 due to the beginning of the Iron Swords War and the security threat involved in transferring goods through the Red Sea following the war. According to the Tax Authority, trend data indicates a moderate increase in the value of imports.
