A labor dispute declared by the 900 customs and 650 value-added-tax workers stopped almost all import and export activities last Sunday
The industrial action was over the proposal of the Suari committee to reorganize departments, bringing VAT under the income tax authority, and removing the customs department from tax authority supervision.
In a letter to Customs and VAT employees, the Customs and VAT national worker's committee said that more than two months had passed since the worker's committee had written to the Ministry of Finance asking it to state publicly whether it intended to adopt the recommendations of the Suari committee.
The union had the full Histadrut labor federation backing in the dispute.
