30 years of monopoly held by Maman Cargo Terminal are over. The Israeli Airport Authority signed on 01/06/2004 an agreement to build and operate a second air cargo terminal next to the Maman terminal.
The new terminal will be built by a group of five leading companies headed by the Swiss cargo handling specialist Swissport International. The other four are C.A.L Israel’s cargo airline, F.C. Flying Cargo, the largest logistic service provider in Israel, Lauffer Teufa , a private air cargo handling company and Dankner Investment House.
Mr. Gabi Offir, Director General of the Israeli Airport Authority said at the signing ceremony that the new terminal opens a new era to the Israeli air cargo industry. The agreement opens up the cargo handling sector to competition after a long period of monopoly.
It is understood that the total investment required to build the new air cargo terminal will be in the region of US$18 million. The group will be given a concession to operate the terminal for a period of 20 years, at the end of which, it will be handed over to the Authority.
The terminal will start operating in mid 2006.
