El Al Israel Airlines said last Sunday that its chief executive officer, Amos Shapira, had informed the company's incoming chairman that he would step down. Shapira, who has been CEO for three years, has agreed to remain in the position until a replacement is found.
Shapira, is credited widely as the person who lead the financial and operational turnaround of the Israeli flag carrier during his three years in office.
Mr.Israel (Izzy) Borovich, El Al's new chairman, praised Shapira's tenure at the airline. "Amos contributed greatly to El Al's privatization and to turning it into a competitive and profitable airline," he said in a statement to the press.
