The approval due to the Israel-Armenia bilateral agreement signed in 1997
Israel's Transportation, Road Safety and Infrastructure Minister Yisrael Katz approved Arkia Airlines' application to fly between Israel's Ben-Gurion International Airport (TLV) and Zvartnots International Airport (IATA: EVN, ICAO: UDYZ) Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.
According to a press release the Minister said that, Arkia airline was able to conduct Israel-Armenia flights due to a bilateral agreement signed in 1997 between Israel and Armenia. The route has only been serviced, until now, by Armenia airline Armavia.
Minister Katz also noted that the granting of the route was part of liberalization policy in the Israeli airline industry.
