Israel Airports Authority published last week its September's cargo traffic figures through Ben Gurion Airport.
During September Ben Gurion airport handled 21,452 tons,15.8% drop compared to the parallel period last year during which 25,476 tons were handled.
Since the beginning of the year (January– September) the airport handled 196,175 tons a drop of 23.9% compared to the parallel period (257,788 tons).
The Airport Authority which handles inbound and outbound cargo flown by passenger aircraft handled 12,091 tons of cargo through September ( import 5,151 tons and export 6,940 tons) an increase of 5.8% compared to the parallel (11,426 tons, import amounted to 4,540 tons & export amounted to 6,886 tons).
Air cargo carriers which operate 747 freighters continued to experience a drop in demand for cargo. In September, pure cargo carriers handled a total of 9,361 tons out which 5,269 were imported and 4,091 tons were exported, a drop of 33.37% compared to the parallel (14,050 tons). El Al handled throughout September 2,869 tons, a drop of 20.6% compared to the parallel (3,613 tons). El Al's market share improved during September from 25.7% to 30.6%.
During January – September 2009 El Al carried a total of 31,620 tons, a drop of 36% compared to the parallel (49,529 tons).
C.A.L Cargo Air Lines handled during same period 3,483 tons of cargo, a drop of 36% compared to the parallel month (5,517 tons). The company's market share has been stable at 38% of total cargo moved by freighters in and out of Israel.
During January – September 2009 C.A.L handled 38,278 tons, a drop of 30% compared to the parallel (54,757 tons).
