Spanish airline Air Madrid began last week the first charter flights between Tel Aviv and Madrid. Sources at the Israeli Ministry of Transport said Air Madrid will initially offer two flights a week
Same sources added that Iberia Airlines, Spain’s national air carrier which currently operates 12 weekly flights on the Tel Aviv-Madrid route, was about to increase this to 14 flights in June. It is further understood that tourist traffic between Israel and Spain totals 330,000 tourists a year and is expected to increase.
Mr. Arie Bar, director general of the Ministry of Transport said that the new charter flights will not only increase capacity between the two countries but also increase competition for the benefit of Israeli and Spanish passengers.
