Zim announced its new East–West Express Service (EWX), connecting major Asian and North European ports. The new service will commence on January 15th with the first westbound sailing from Shanghai.
Zim EWX is a weekly service, deploying 8 X 4250 TEU recent vessels, running on the following rotation: Shanghai (CN) – Xiamen (CN) – Shekou CN) - Port Kelang (MY), to and from three North European continental ports in the Bremerhaven-Le Havre range and one British port. The new service will also serve various other Asian and European origins and destination by connections on Zim's regional feeder services.
This new Zim service will offer customers short and reliable transit times between major North European and Asian ports. As always, this new Zim EWX service will also cater for customer's special needs, including refrigerated cargoes, over dimensional cargoes or hazardous cargoes.
Zim EWX joins three other existing Zim weekly services connecting Asia & Europe, namely the Far East North Europe Line (AEX), the Asia Mediterranean Express Line (AMX), as well as the ISE service between the Indian sub-continent and north Europe. Altogether, with the addition of the new EWX service, these four Zim services offer comprehensive and versatile shipping solutions to customers operating on the growing Asia-Europe trade lanes. Zim also operates three other weekly container services between Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea ports.
The new Zim EWX service is a significant upgrade of Zim services. Its creation is in line with the company's growth strategy, which is illustrated by a large investment program. This program includes about two dozen very large containerships - VLCS – with capacities ranging from 8,000 to 12,600 TEU, which will be progressively put in service as from the end of 2008.
