Hazi Halawiya Appointed as Chairman of Israel Ports Company

Hazi Halawiya has been confirmed as the new Chairman of the Israel Ports Company, following his election by the company's board and approval by the government's appointments committee.

Transportation and Road Safety Minister, Miri Regev, and Regional Cooperation Minister, David Amsalem, announced the approval of Hazi Halawiya's appointment as Chairman of the Israel Ports Company. This follows his election to the role by the company's board on April 28, 2025, and approval by the government's appointments committee.

Halawiya, a 53-year-old resident of Ashkelon, married with three children, most recently served as the CEO of Ashkelon Municipality. Prior to that, he served as the Deputy CEO of Global Operations at the high-tech company NICE. He is a retired brigadier general and holds a Master's degree in Business Administration for Executives, a directors' course, and various courses from Harvard and Yale universities in the United States.

The Israel Ports Company serves as the state's operational arm for promoting the reform of seaports, through which about 99% of Israel's imports and exports are conducted. The company establishes, develops, maintains, upgrades, and improves Israel's commercial seaports in Haifa, Ashdod, and Eilat, including the new ports established by the company: the Southern Port in Ashdod and the Bay Port in Haifa. All of the Israel Ports Company's activities are aimed at promoting Israel's economy and improving the quality and standard of living of the entire Israeli market, through the planning, establishment, and operation of seaports - the maritime gateways to the State of Israel.
