In Q2 of 2012, the port handled TEU 318,023, and increase of 5/1%
The Port of Ashdod broke its quarterly cargo volume record in the second quarter of 2012 with TEU318,023 (20-foot equivalent units), an increase of 5.1%, compared to the corresponding period last year.
In a statement, the port noted it registered a record handling volume for the first six months of 2012 with TEU 606,018, an increase of 1%, compared to the corresponding period last year.
During June 2012 port's productivity of container handling per ship's - hour increased to TEU34.6 per hour, an improvement of 2.4%, compared to previous monthly record reached in July 2010.
The port noted that volumes of general cargo continued to improve. The month of June experience 16% increase in general cargo volumes compared to June 2011 and 35% increase in metals handled compared to the corresponding period last year.
In total, the port unloaded 1,002 thousand tons, an increase of 3.9% compared to June 2011 and loaded 650 thousand tons, an increase of 1.1% compared to June 2011. During January May 2012 the port's market share of motor vehicles imported to Israel was 62.1% an increase of market share of 3.8% compared to the corresponding period last year.
