Figures published last week by the port of Ashdod indicate 220% increase in operating profit ( total revenue over costs ) for the first ten months of 2004. According to the port management, the surplus of revenue over expenditure, amounted to NIS 110 M.
 
Mr. Shaul Rotem director general of the port said in a press release that during the first ten months of 2004 the port experienced 1.5% increase in cargo movement, from 11.8 million tons in the same period in 2003 to 12.0 million tons in 2004.
 
In the container sector the port experienced an increase of 1%. During January - October 2004, 319,027 containers moved through the port compared to 315,276 containers in the same period last year.
