A high ranking Israeli trade delegation headed by Mr. Uriel Lynn, president of the Federation of the Israeli Chambers of Commerce ( FICC ), visited yesterday the Jordanian Red Sea port of Aqaba.
In a press release Lynn said that the purpose of the visit was to study whether the port can potentially be used as an alternative port for the Israeli imports and exports to the Far East.
Al Aqabah port is Jordan's only port on Gulf of Aqaba. The port has one container terminal and over 20 modernized berths, divided into sections for general cargo, phosphates in bulk, and potash and fertilizers.
The delegation consisted of Mr. Amir Shani, chairman of ways and means committee at the Tel Aviv Chamber of Commerce and director general of Amit, forwarding and customs clearing agents, Mr. Oren Shachor, chairman of the chamber's foreign relations committee, Mr. Oded Feller, president of the Haifa Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Gad Sheffer, Chairman of the Israeli Shippers Council, Mr. Shlomo Sharon, chairman of the Israeli federation of freight forwarders and customs clearing agents, Dana Adi, director of Eilat Chamber of Commerce, Mrs. Livnat Kizner, manager at the Tel Aviv Chamber of Commerce and Mrs. Devora Fux, director of the foreign relation department at the Tel Aviv Chamber of Commerce.
The delegation also visited Aqaba Special Economic ZoneAuthorityand the container freight station located at the rear of the port.
