Haifa port calls importers to clear containers

The port issued a request asking importers to clear containers due to heavy backlog at the port's container terminal
 
In a statement issued last week the port said that 6,800 containers were backlogged at the terminal and that additional 3,500 containers were at Overseas container yard creating a congestion hindering smooth port operations.
 
Yoav Margalit, head of container terminal at the port, noted that heavy storage charges are incurred for containers after four days. He explained the port is uninterested in demanding these storage charges, calling on the owners of the containers to claim them as quickly as possible to permit the container terminal to return to regular operating conditions.
