Haifa Port, Israel’s largest and longest established deep-sea water port, handled 8.071 million tons of cargo during the first four months of 2008 compared to 6.867 million tons in the parallel period of 2007, a sharp increase of 18%.
Haim Lenzizky the port acting director general added that during each of the first four months the port handled over TEU 110,000. March was record breaking month during which the port handled over TEU124,000.
The port spokesman added that during the period the port registered a 12% increase in containers imported, 7% increase in export containers and 48% increase in containers transshipped through the port.
