Ashdod port: record breaking 1st quarter

During the first quarter the port handled TEU297,289  compared to TEU 260,159in the corresponding period last year – up 14.3%. The port handled a total of 4.9 million tons, up 4.6%
 
 
According to a press release issued by the Ashdod port company, the first three months of 2011 was a record breaking quarter.
 
During the first quarter the port handled TEU297,289  compared to TEU 260,159in the corresponding period last year – up 14.3%. During the first quarter of 2011 the port handled a total of 4.9 million tons, compared to 4.7 million tons in the corresponding period last year, up 4.6%.
 
The port has also noted that productivity in the container sector has increased from TEU21.7 per hour in the first quarter of 2010 to TEU23.7 per hour in the first quarter of 2011, up 8.9%.                                                                                                                   The motor vehicle sector has also shown in increase in quantities handled.
 
During the first quarter the port handled 37,000 motor vehicles compared to 31,000 motor vehicles in the corresponding period last year, up 20.5%.
