The company also noted that its market share of total cargoes moved was 44.2% compared to 40.7% in the corresponding period last year.
Statement issued by the company economic department shows that the port had experienced an 18% growth in TEU terms over the 11 month period. During the period, the port moved TEU 638,189.
In the January – November period total cargo moved through the port was up 7% compared to the corresponding period last year. During November 2006 the port experienced 24% increase in cargo movement compared to the corresponding month last year.
Much of the increase can be attributed to second Lebanon war in July August which closed Haifa port and cargo was routed via Ashdod. Nevertheless according to port statistics released last week in November 2006 the port experienced an 11% increase in TEU movements reaching TEU 52,542.
88 passenger ships carrying 100,067 passengers called Ashdod during the period ( up 68.1% compared to the corresponding period last year in which 59,542 passengers arrived.
