Minister of Transport and Road Safety Yisrael Katz signed a new directive to raise the permitted maximum highway speed from 110 km/h to 120 km/h.

The new decree, signed by Minister Katz and approved by the Justice Department, has established that the Ministry of Transport can raise the maximum permitted speed limit to 120 km/h on highways, following a consultation with the head of the Israeli Police Force’s Department of Transport.

Katz accepted the recommendation by the Cross-Israel Highway Company Ltd., which operates the Road 6 Yitzhak Rabin Highway to raise the speed limit on the toll road. Ministry of Transport noted in a press release that the higher speed limit will initially apply to Road 6, which was originally designed for a 130 km/h speed limit.
