Chairman of the Board of Israel Railways, Moshe Shimon, and CEO of Israel Railways, Shiko Zana, held a meeting yesterday with the president of the shipping and logistics group MSC at the group's headquarters in Geneva.
The aim of the meeting was to promote collaborations between the companies. Also present at the meeting were the CEO of MSC Israel, Leah Bogatch-Genossar, and the Chairman of MSC Israel, Adani Simkin.
MSC, the world's largest shipping company, has developed land transportation and logistics services using trains in Europe and Africa over the past decade, thereby improving the logistics value chain for its customers.
Israel Railways is advancing the planning of cargo terminals and branches at seaports and across the country. The joint project is expected to provide a door-to-door solution for cargo owners in export and import from the customer's yard in the country to the origin or destination of the shipment abroad, by combining sea and land transportation through trains and inland ports.
Chairman of the Board of Israel Railways, Moshe Shimon, noted that "the new collaboration is another step in promoting the Ministry of Transportation's plan in accordance with the policy of the Minister of Transportation, Miri Regev, and the company's board of directors to develop cargo transportation in Israel Railways to increase the railway's share in cargo transportation in Israel, as a green alternative to truck transportation."
CEO of Israel Railways, Shiko Zana, emphasized the importance he sees in providing end-to-end transportation and logistics solutions for cargo owners in industry and logistics.
President of the MSC Group, Diego Aponte, said that the railway is the future of land logistics for environmental and social reasons. The vision of Israel Railways aligns with MSC's vision for door-to-door service stations and he welcomed the collaboration.
